Ethiopia, Zambia Establish Joint Commission to Forge Ties
Ethiopia and Zambia have established a joint cooperation commission to forge bilateral relationships, following a two-day ministerial meeting held in Lusaka.
The countries established the joint commission in accordance with the agreement they have reached two years ago.
Ethiopia and Zambia enjoyed strong diplomatic ties since the later has established its embassy in Addis Ababa in 1965.
Since then, the two countries have concluded a number of agreements that would boost bilateral relationships.
The ministerial meeting discussed bilateral issues including the status of previous agreements that need to be materialized and future cooperation areas.
Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu told ENA that the main objective of the commission is to further consolidate diplomatic ties.
He said that the joint commission will play important role in enhancing cooperation in economic, political and social aspects.
Zambia’s Foreign Minister Harry Kalaba for his part emphasized the need for the two countries to properly utilize resources and opportunities for maximum benefit of their people.
In this regard, the commission need to discharge its responsibility by monitoring the proper implementation of concluded agreements, he added.
The next meeting of the joint commission, which meets every two years, will be held in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
