Statement by the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on the Killing of Aid-Workers in the Republic of South Sudan
The Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia condemns in the strongest terms the heinous and barbaric killings of six aid workers in South Sudan along the Juba to Pibor road on Saturday March 25, 2017.
The Government expresses its deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Governments of the Republic of South Sudan and the Republic of Kenya.
The Ethiopian Government underlines that such deplorable attacks are criminal and unjustifiable regardless of their motives. The Government, therefore, believes that the Government of the Republic of South Sudan must exert all effort to ensure that the perpetrators are held into account.
The Government of Ethiopia calls on all South Sudanese parties to contribute to the safe, secure, and unhindered access to aid workers across South Sudan.
The Government of Ethiopia also underlines that aid workers, who work to improve the humanitarian situation of South Sudanese at a time when the country is in dire need of humanitarian assistance, must not be the target of violence.
The Government reiterates that the full implementation of the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan and an inclusive national dialogue is the only way forward to lasting peace in South Sudan.
