The Emir of the State of Qatar, Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani arrived in Addis Ababa today (April 10, 2017), as part of his two-day state visit to Ethiopia.
The Emir of the State of Qatar, Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani met with senior government officials, including President Dr. Mulatu Teshome, Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, and Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, along with other high-level Ethiopian dignitaries at the Jubilee Palace later today.
The two sides are expected to conclude several agreements and series of memoranda of understandings in various fields.
Ethiopia and Qatar originally established formal diplomatic relations in 1995, and the number of high-level visits in the last five years underlines their commitment to elevate the bilateral relations into new heights. His Highness’ father, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, made an official visit to Addis Ababa in April 2013 after meeting Prime Minister Hailemariam at the Doha Climate Change Conference (COP 18) a few months earlier. This was preceded by the visit of Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamas bin Jassim bin Jabor Al-Thami in December 2016.
