Ethio-Egypt regular consultation underway in Addis
As part of the Foreign Ministers’ regular consultation meeting between Ethiopia and Egypt, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu and Sameh Shoukry have held discussions today (December 26) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Praising the Ethiopian side for the warm welcome accorded to him and his delegation, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry noted the outstanding commitment the Government of the two countries has displayed to further bolster the longstanding and ever growing bilateral ties. The Minister highlighted the fact that the signing of the Declaration of Principles (DoP) has demonstrated the unflinching position the two countries show to take the ties to a higher gear through utilization of a trans-boundary resource in an “equitable and reasonable manner.”
Noting the visit as “a positive signal” towards ensuring the Ethiopian public that the Government of Egypt is fully determined towards fostering the solidarity of the two people that has exceeded millennia, Dr. Workneh called on the need to forge such consultative dialogues to further alleviate the ties in plethora of arrays. Ethiopia, added the Minister, remains to uphold all the interests of the parties to the DoP in a pan-African spirit that eyes the full respect of mutual concerns.
Dr. Workneh also noted the GERD is a symbol of cooperation that aims at enhancing the capacity of all the riparian countries including Egypt. The Minister stressed Ethiopia strongly believes that the GERD will cause no significant harms to Egypt and always aspires to pursue its development activities in a “Win Win” approach.
Hailing the Egyptian investors who had ventured in several businesses and investment arenas in Ethiopia, Dr. Workneh called for more Egyptian investors to engage in the attractive investment schemes and incentive packages his Government has put in place. Reiterating Dr. Workneh’s point genuine, Sameh Shoukry, on his part underscored Ethiopia will continue to be a viable destination for Egyptian investors in many fields particularly in garnering mutual profits in the booming Industrial Park Developments in the country.
The relationship between Ethiopia and Egypt is one of the oldest relationships that transcend the timelines of history where Abay, the Nile has been a blueprint in the rich civilization of the continent.
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn at his office in afternoon.
