State Minister Hirut confers with UN Secretary-General Representative for Somalia
State Minister Hirut Zemene meeting with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia Michael Keating on Tuesday (March 28) reiterated that Ethiopia remains committed to extend its helping hand in the strengthening of the security, stability and development of Somalia.
The State Minister emphasized that Ethiopia’s neighborhood diplomacy guided by the principles of mutual trust, partnership and joint development points to the need for further deepening and strengthening of Ethio-Somali ties in the fields ranging from security and economic partnership to the realms of capacity building and people to people ties.
Michael Keating on his part gave a briefing on the upcoming International Conference on Somalia to be held in London in May 2017, highlighting that the conference aims to expedite the progress on security and the response to the drought. The conference will also agree on the forthcoming international partnership to help Somalia remain on track towards increased peace and prosperity by 2020, the Special Representative added.
